GRAND STRAND HARMONY CHORUS - 2011

2011      GSHC's first retreat was held Jan. 15th weekend at the Breakers Resort.  Phyllis and Norma did a bang up job with the Pot Luck as well as the social activities. Linda M did a great job getting the condos. Weren't the rooms stupendous? And the sunrise view, well what can we say? Glorious!
As Beverly Dale could not coach due to sickness, this was a fun filled weekend as well as a brush up on music weekend, thus allowing potential members to attend the brush up on music session. A good time was had by all, especially when the soccer gals dropped in to hear us sing Friday night. No matter where you go there is always an audience. Thanks Barbara for all the tags and hard work.
Since January 1st, the chorus has gained 8 new members. Who Rah!! But alas lost 1 of those new members Carla Graham and our assistant director.
Welcome to our new members.
Sherri Culler  - Carla Graham - Shirl Hettinger - Sherri Losasso - Linda Lyerly -Dale Maclin - Mae Padgett - Christine Seebach.

GSHC loves all our old members for being there through thick and thin these past 3 years. Could not have done it without you all. Give yourselves a big pat on the back. Love ya all!!!

GRAND STRAND HARMONY CHORUS - 2010

2010  gained 10 new members, but alas we lost 3 more lovable members.
On March 27, 2010 with 15 members, the chorus sang on Region14 Contest Stage. WOW! Barbara was pleased with our scores C minus. Not bad for our first time out with so many new to barbershop members. Our contest photo can be seen at the top of the page.
Only one guest night was held - May 25th - with a Red, White and Blue theme. This guest night netted us 18 guests and 7 new members thanks to great publicity.
To take the place of a guest night the  first Christmas program was implemented on Oct. 12th which proved to be very successful netting us 22 guests. The chorus along with our guests sang at  8 performances. Our Christmas caroling evening failed to come to complete culmination due to the weather not cooperating - 39 degrees. But as Jensen's was an indoor performance all was not a total  loss. Jensen's was so appreciative they even gave us a large donation.
Over the year the chorus sang at 20 performances. Thanks Shirley for a job well done. Thanks to the members for being there when needed. And mucho thanks to Barbara, our director, for all her hard and dedicated work - Without which we would not have come this far musically.
The chorus had two great coaching sessions with Beverly Dale during the year. There was so much to learn. Thanks for a job well done.
There were monthly sectionals held with Barbara before rehearsal on the first Tuesday of the month alternating  between tenor, lead, bari, and then bass.
Ways and Means had a successful year. The Belk's Charity Sale was held twice this year - May and November and netted the chorus a hefty sum.  The chorus also sold Neck-bandoos  in front of the Bi-LO grocery store in Myrtle Beach.
Overall 2010 was a very successful year. At this moment in time, membership has increased to 21 members with 7 prospective members of which 1 prospective has passed her audition. We are starting the New Year with a bang!!!
With the help and support of the public, the chorus has been singing for the places where we once sang.

   GRAND STRAND HARMONY CHORUS

                         2009

The Grand Strand Harmony Chorus , a small but enthusiastic group who share the love of barbershop harmony, started in August, 1995 and received its official charter from Sweet Adelines International in 1997.  That same year the ladies participated in their first regional competition where they won the “Novice Chorus Award”.  The next year at competition they won the “Most Improved Chorus Award”.
After returning from competition, the chorus continued to grow and expand its repertoire with songs ranging from upbeat tunes complete with choreography to heart rending ballads, old favorites to contemporary songs, all sung “a cappella” in the distinctive four-part barbershop style  (tenor, lead, baritone, bass).
Over the years the chorus has performed at various places in the area including the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, several shopping malls, the Italian Festival, Brookgreen Gardens, Theatre of the Republic, Low Country Men’s Barbershop Annual Show, area churches and schools, etc. and during the month of December the chorus sings at many nursing homes in the area.

At the beginning of year 2009, the chorus membership had decreased to a total of four full time members with no director.
By April of 2009, the membership had increased to fifteen members and we had a full time director. GSH was back on the road to bigger and better things. The chorus had its first performance on September 1st, 2009. What a great feeling to be able to perform once again.
